Only 1.5 hours from Perth, Dwellingup is a quaint little country town that is humming with activity. Get your fishing gear out or rent a kayak to paddle the Murray River, or stroll a portion of the Bibbulman Track. While there are several accommodation options available, we advise packing a tent and go camping or heading to Lane Poole Reserve instead so you can be in the thick of things. With its beautiful campgrounds surrounded by jarrah and marri trees, various bushwalking and mountain bike paths, and the tranquil Murray River as a backdrop, the lovely town appeals to those who love being outside. People are drawn to Dwellingup for other reasons besides the attraction of nature. Dwellingup is a low-key escape with all the charm of the country, including wineries, artistic galleries, adorable cafes, and a heritage tourist railway.
Taking a trip on the renowned Hotham Valley Tourist Railway, which was built in 1974, will allow you to experience what life was like in the past, even though time travel may not be possible. The state's last remaining lightly built railway travels through woodland and agricultural areas on three historical trains: the Forest Train, Steam Ranger, and Restaurant Train. Visit the award-winning Pinjarra Bakery for the necessary pie stop. Get out on the water in the Murray River or explore the area from the many bushwalking and mountain biking trails.

The many structures in WA's first and oldest inland town that are on the National Register of Historic Places attest to its rich history, which dates back to 1831. York is 90 minutes by car from Perth and in addition to the museums and stores in the city, the nearby Avon Valley has a wealth of natural attractions. Everyone will enjoy a visit to this quaint town, whether they are looking for vintage candy for the kids, historical museum displays, or challenging treks in the great outdoors. The York Bushland Garden, Talbot Hall Reserve, and Wallaby Hills Reserve are notable places to seek out. Take an infamous self-guided tour of "Ghost Town". Many people think that paranormal events have occurred throughout York's history, and a self-driving tour is one of the greatest ways to visit the town's allegedly haunted spots. Starting at the York Village Hall, this 160-kilometer journey brings you to a few historic homesteads, cemeteries, and the deserted Wheatbelt town of Balkuling. If you’re up for stretching your legs, you can tackle Brown Lookout Mountain. With good cause, it's one of York's most Instagrammable spots. The 7.5-kilometer roundtrip climb to Mount Brown Lookout passes via a Memorial Grove, York's first swinging bridge, and a variety of native plants and animals. You will be treated to expansive views of the surrounding mountains and the town centre once you get at the lookout point.
The Pinnacles desert's breathtaking scenery cannot be emphasised enough. One of Australia's most distinctive and fascinating natural sceneries is made up of the lunar-like Pinnacles, some of which reach a height of five metres. Just outside the coastal town of Cervantes, thousands of tall limestone spires that date back millions of years are rising eerily out of the yellow desert sands of Nambung National Park. You can enter the Pinnacles along the magnificent drive or walk trail in less than three hours from Perth by travelling along the Indian Ocean Drive. Alternately, you can let someone else drive by boarding a coach or four-wheel drive excursion departing from Cervantes or Perth. Ponder the natural forces of water and wind that formed the Pinnacles from seashells over millions of years as you stand at the overlook. Better still, go to the Pinnacles Desert Discovery Centre to learn more about the plants and animals that have adapted to this area as well as to view interpretive displays that tell the history of the Pinnacles. When you’re done with the desert you may hit the beaches of the Coral Coast and stay overnight in the villages of Cervantes, Jurien Bay and Leeman.
