Founded in Massachusetts over a century ago, Converse create shoes for the feet of men, women, and children. Their classic styles - such as the Chuck Taylor All Star, and One Star, have cemented their position as one of the most iconic footwear brands in the world. For many, the star logo has become a symbol of culture, and an expression of individuality.
Through its history, Converse has been dynamic enough to produce footwear for all kinds of activities. In 1941, Converse manufactured footwear for the US military, supporting their efforts in World War II. They were worn by the first all African American professional basketball team – the New York Renaissance, as well as by Wilt Chamberlain when he became the only person to score 100 points in a game of NBA basketball. They have also been donned by cultural icons - such as Kurt Cobain, and Wiz Khalifa, and for over a decade have been involved in professional skating, with guys like Louie Lopez and Aaron “Papa Jaws” Homoki on board.
With an eye to the future, Converse have set social and environmental goals to maximise the good they are able to do as a brand. Notably, they trace their supply chain to ensure their supplier code of conduct is met; while parent company Nike have set a goal to reduce their operational emissions by more than 50% over the next 5 years.
